Integrated Yoga Therapy

At Flourishing Hope ABA, we embrace an Integrated Approach to Yoga Therapy to support neurodivergent children in developing a stronger brain-body connection. This evidence-based approach enhances motor planning, imitation skills, body awareness, and sensory regulation while providing a calming and strengthening effect on the central nervous system. With minimal social demands, yoga therapy offers a safe and inclusive way for children to engage in movement, fostering both physical and emotional well-being.

What Does Yoga Therapy Have to Offer?

The objective of yoga therapy is to honor all the ways of being that children choose to express themselves. This includes providing tools that can help improve their brain-body connection.

Recent research has shown that an integrated approach to yoga therapy can help neurodivergent kiddos improve their quality of life through:

  • Integrating new information for motor planning.

  • Improving imitation abilities.

  • Engaging in an activity that can be shared with others with minimal social demands.

  • Helping improve body/self-awareness.

  • Beneficial sensory input.

  • Calming and strengthening the central nervous system.

Through yoga therapy, children can develop self-regulation skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of movement in a supportive environment.

Where can these Yoga sessions take place?

Where can these yoga sessions take place?
Yoga sessions can be held in various settings depending on the needs of the child and the availability of resources. These may include:

  • Home-based sessions for a comfortable and familiar environment.

  • Therapy centers or clinics as part of a structured program.

  • Outdoor or community spaces for a calming, nature-based experience.

  • Schools or educational settings to integrate yoga into a child’s daily routine.

What about group Yoga sessions?

Group yoga sessions can be a great way for children to engage in movement with peers while minimizing social pressure. They can be structured to:

  • Encourage parallel participation, allowing children to engage at their own pace.

  • Focus on sensory-friendly movements that support self-regulation.

  • Use visual supports and modeling to aid imitation skills.

  • Incorporate playful themes and storytelling to enhance engagement.

Group sessions can also provide peer interaction opportunities while respecting each child’s unique way of participating, making it a flexible and inclusive activity.
